Kolkata: Castle of Queen Victoria

Kolkata: Castle of Queen Victoria

The Victoria Memorial

Is a large marble building in Kolkata…

Which was built between 1906 and 1921. It is dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria (1819–1901), and is now a museum. It has a big, full of flowers garden around the building and it is beautifully made from inside and outside. The construction has got some motive of Taj Mahal. The Victoria Memorial has 25 galleries. These include the royal gallery, the national leaders gallery, the portrait gallery, central hall, the sculpture gallery, the arms and armory gallery and the newer, Calcutta gallery. It’s beautiful but they do not allow cameras inside the museum.

In front of the Museum is a big gate with lions on sides. Then there is a huge garden or park and one statue in front of the building. Then there is The Museum where we pass trough encounter which checks our tickets. And then we can enter a big impressing room. From which there are many sections you can see. Sadly the time I was there the upstairs were closed so we don’t know what is hiding there. On the backside of the building there is the same garden with a different statue.

The price of the ticket is very cheap for Indians compering to other nationalities. If you are not Indian you will pay few hundreds Rs.

If you are interested in art you must see The castle. It’s a good lesson of art and culture.

That’s what I think.
