Kolkata

Kolkata

It is a big city, megacity.

Also called Calcutta (the official name until 2001). It is the capital city of West Bengal. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly River (Ganges), it is the cultural, and educational center of East India, while the Port of Kolkata is India’s oldest operating port. Kolkata is the third most populous metropolitan area in India.

From my experience, I know that Kolkata has many interesting places to see like museums and art galleries. I also heard that there are many kinds of food but it wasn’t that visible. By the way, Kolkata looks almost like any place in Europe because of its British past. My eye caught mostly metro, trams, and taxis which I didn’t see in other cities in India before.

We thought with the family that Kolkata is one of those polluted, crowded cities, but we were very surprised when we arrived there. It was big and noisy like in the city but it was also beautiful. Especially at the night they put purple lights on and it is so colorful.

Our time in Kolkata was limited so we didn’t see many places but we have got to see:

Castle of Queen Victoria

Indian Museum

Botanical Garden

Here is our 3 days journey to Kolkata:

To Kolkata, Day 1

To Kolkata, Day 2

To Kolkata, Day 3

I’m sure there is much more to see so don’t think that 2 days will be enough to visit one of the biggest cities of India.
